Engineering Surveys

By our very nature, African Consulting Surveyors are still surveyors and employ traditional surveying techniques such as Total Stations and Differential GPS equipment and surveys.
All of our surveyors are registered with internationally recognised surveying bodies to reassure our clients that they have suitably qualified surveyors working on their projects.

Our survey department mainly performs a support function to our 3D Scanning services, however they are also highly experienced in the field of construction surveys.

We provide the following support onsite for new construction projects:

  • Setting out of foundations, structures and infrastructure
  • Earthworks and volume calculations
  • Verification surveys
  • Deformation surveys
  • Cadastral surveys and boundary identifications
Engineering surveys cover a broad spectrum of applications, each serving a unique purpose. Common types include:

Topographic Surveys – Mapping terrain and elevation changes.
Construction Surveys – Guiding accurate building placement.
Geodetic Surveys – Measuring large-scale land positions.
As-Built Surveys – Documenting completed structures for verification.
Understanding which survey type suits your project is crucial to achieving accurate results.
Modern engineering surveys leverage cutting-edge technologies to enhance precision and efficiency. LiDAR, GPS, and drone-based photogrammetry have revolutionized data collection, reducing field time while improving accuracy. These innovations allow surveyors to capture high-resolution spatial data, even in challenging environments.
Engineering surveys minimize costly errors by providing precise measurements from the start. A miscalculation in elevation or boundary data can lead to structural weaknesses, project delays, or regulatory non-compliance. By ensuring accuracy in every phase, from initial planning to final construction, engineering surveys help prevent unexpected challenges.
From highways to pipelines, engineering surveys play a pivotal role in large-scale infrastructure projects. Surveys help engineers assess terrain, design stable foundations, and ensure structures align with environmental and safety regulations. Accurate data supports better decision-making, reducing risks and optimizing project outcomes.
Poorly executed surveys can lead to major financial losses due to misaligned structures, inaccurate elevations, or unstable foundations. Investing in professional engineering surveys from the beginning helps mitigate risks, streamline construction processes, and prevent the need for costly corrections later on.
The future of engineering surveys is driven by automation, artificial intelligence, and real-time data analysis. Emerging trends include:

AI-Powered Data Processing – Faster, more accurate insights from survey data.
Automated Drone Surveys – Covering large areas quickly with minimal human intervention.
Augmented Reality for Site Planning – Visualizing survey data in immersive 3D environments.
These advancements will continue to push the boundaries of accuracy and efficiency in engineering surveys.
